Renee (our current President) started the chapter back in June 2005 and had six ladies sign up right away! "It was then I knew we were on our way to being part of something terrific," she says. The group went on their first big ride just before Hurricane Katrina hit the coastal area, where the Dixie Angels are headquarted (Ocean Springs, MS ... right between Pascagoula and Biloxi).
Things were put on hold for a bit, but during the November meeting that year, the Dixie Angels decided to contribute to the rebuilding of their community by teaming up with the Humane Society of Southern Mississippi (HSSM) by organizing a toy drive for the lost and displaced animals. "We accumulated so much stuff we had to take it over in a truck!!," says Renee.
We feel priviledged and are proud to be in association with such wonderful women and hope to continue to foster strong relationships and keep our love of riding alive. Even though we suffered through complete devastation, we are coming back bigger and stronger!
